Lottery Singapore – A Cautionary Tale

Lottery Singapore

A woman in Singapore who won S$200,000 in 4D lottery could not recover her winnings after a friend ran off with the ticket. This cautionary tale was shared on a closed Facebook group on 16 January as a warning to be careful when asking someone else to place lottery bets on your behalf.

Lottery in Singapore

There are three main types of lottery in Singapore – 4D, Toto and Singapore Sweep. Each type of lottery is operated differently. Moreover, they are all sold through licensed merchants.

The most popular lottery in Singapore is 4-Digits, which offers a fixed odds and can be played from any Singapore Pools outlet. Its results are announced every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 6.30 pm SG time.

Its jackpot starts at S$1 million and rolls down if there are no winners for four consecutive draws, but it is not as big as US Powerball or Eurojackpot. The odds of winning are also not great.

TOTO

TOTO is a local lottery run by Singapore Pools and is the second most popular lottery in Singapore, after 4-Digits. It is available at any of the Singapore Pools outlets and has seven prize tiers with varying amounts, including S$1 million for the first place win.

The winner of the draw can claim their prize at any of the Singapore Pools branches, and their winnings will be sent directly to them. This is a safer option than buying lottery tickets online, but it comes at a higher price.
